Michael Larbie is the Group Executive, Corporate & Investment Banking at Ecobank, a role he has held since March 2024. He has over 25 years of experience in financial services and investment banking, spanning Africa and four other continents. He began his career in 1997 at Merrill Lynch’s Retirement Services business in New Jersey, USA, as a Service Representative and Financial Controller. He later joined American International Group’s Global Call Center Operations as a Financial Controller and Management Consultant, before returning to Merrill Lynch as an Investment Banking FIG Associate in New York. He subsequently held senior roles as Head of Investment Banking for Sub-Saharan Africa and Head of the Africa Financial Institutions Group. Prior to joining Ecobank, Michael served as CEO, International & Broader Africa at Rand Merchant Bank. His tenure included founding CEO and Managing Director of RMB Nigeria and Regional Head of West Africa from 2013 to 2022. Michael holds an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Sociology from the University of Ghana. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
