Mining Engineer
The Impact Facility
Candice Mkamburi Jumwa is a Mining Engineer and financial inclusion specialist focused on advancing responsible mineral supply chains in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) across East and Central Africa, with a particular emphasis on artisanal gold, copper and cobalt. Her work sits at the intersection of mining engineering, applied research, and innovative finance, supporting the professionalisation of ASM operations and their integration into formal markets. Candice designs and operationalises practical financial and ESG solutions that bridge the gap between artisanal and small-scale miners and the formal financial sector. She has led and contributed to applied research on ASM financial access, ESG performance, and market inclusion, translating research into implementable models such as lease-to-purchase equipment financing, continuous improvement frameworks, and responsible sourcing mechanisms. Her work has informed planetGOLD programme design, as well as gold and cobalt financing initiatives and responsible minerals programmes operating across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. In parallel, Candice plays a key role in fundraising, communications, and partnership development for multi-stakeholder initiatives, including supporting the growth of the Fair Cobalt Alliance into a global platform engaging stakeholders across the cobalt battery supply chain.
