Abbi Buxton is an independent consultant and recognised expert on gender-based violence (GBV) in the mining sector, with over 20 years’ experience working at the intersection of social impact, human rights and sustainable development. She supports mining companies, investors and multi-stakeholder initiatives to design practical, context-specific approaches to preventing and responding to GBV in workplaces and surrounding communities.  Abbi was named one of the Global Top 100 Women in Mining in 2024, in recognition of her leadership and impact in tackling GBV across the sector. Her work combines applied research, strategic advisory and facilitation, helping organisations move beyond policy commitments toward meaningful, accountable action. Previously, Abbi served as Group Social Impact Manager at De Beers Group, providing global leadership on social performance across mining operations, and as a Senior Policy Researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), where she led evidence-based research and inclusive multi-stakeholder dialogues on mining, gender and community impacts. Abbi is the author of recent thought leadership on GBV in critical mineral supply chains and is a knowledge partner for Mining Indaba 2026’s high-level workshop on catalysing sector-wide action on GBV in mining.
